The Desert Lanmola[1] is a centipede-like mini-boss that is encountered in the deserts of Koholint Island in Link's Awakening.[2] This Lanmola is the guardian of the Angler Key,[3] which is needed to gain access to Angler's Tunnel.
Strategy
While exploring Yarna Desert, Link finds an area of quicksand where the Desert Lanmola makes its home. Getting annoyed by the hindrance Link is becoming,[4] the Lanmola leaps out of the sand to run into Link, descending into another part of the sand.[5] While the Desert Lanmola doesn't try to attack Link directly, the sand vortex at the center of the quicksand proves the biggest concern for Link because if he falls into the sand vortex and into the cave, the damage done to the Desert Lanmola will be reversed. By trying to avoid the center of the quicksand by using the Roc's Feather,[6] Link should slash at the head of the Lanmola with the sword after it has leaped into the air,[7][8] taking eights hits to defeat him with. Link can also use the Bow to attack the desert menace. Once Link defeats the Desert Lanmola, he is rewarded with the Angler Key.[9]
